VACUUM PACKING

Vacuum Packing (also known as Method II, Method 50, Vapor Packing and Barrier Bag Packing) is a water vapor-proof enclosure. This is accomplished by first cushioning all sharp protrusions on the item being packaged and enclosing it in a foil barrier along with desiccant bags containing silica gel or clay. The desiccant absorbs moisture from the air that is trapped in the voids of the unit itself and helps to maintain a 20 to 30 percent humidity factor for a period of 18 to 24 months. Once the desiccant has been placed inside the foil barrier all seams are hermetically sealed and excess air is evacuated with the use of a vacuum prior to the final seal.
